BBC Showcase Marks 50 Years of ‘Doctor Who’ with Symphonic Spectacular
On Tuesday night (February 26) in Liverpool, BBC Worldwide Showcase paid tribute to one of the BBC’s most successful and long-running global franchises, Doctor Who, as the series heads toward its 50th anniversary this November.
Mark Williams (who played Rory’s father Brian in Season 7) hosted the Doctor Who Showcase Symphonic Spectacular, a celebration of Murray Gold’s epic music score for the show. Led by the boyishly Tennant-esque Ben Foster as conductor, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Sense of Sound choir made Gold’s compositions sound even more mythic. The soloists Daniel Keating-Roberts and Elin Manahan Thomas lent their voices to a couple of the numbers; Thomas was particularly moving with her soprano renderings of “Madman with a Box” and the gorgeous “Abigail’s Song.”
They all knew Jackie. Knew how many people she had been with trying so desperately to recapture the feeling she had once had for Pete. And as Jackie finally admitted to them all and to herself that there really had been no way to replace Pete it was then that the Doctor allowed himself to realize.See- the Doctor had so many past companions each shining and bright in their own ways some closer than others. remember that common headcanon that there are a lot of posts about where before Nine goes back to Rose and says “did I mention-it also travels in time?”, he went travelling and that’s how he was in all those old pictures the guy who Rose met showed her?
And remember when Rose said “Oh look at you, beaming away like you’re father christmas” and Nine said “Who says I’m not redbicyclewhenyouweretwelve.”

I have this idea that at one point while the doctor was travelling in that little time before he came back to Rose on the street corner, he was in London and he saw Jackie or younger Rose on a year that Jackie wasn’t particularly doing so well with money, and it was around the holidays. Maybe he passed Jackie in a cafe talking to a friend about how she was not going to be able to afford the bicycle Rose really desperately wanted. So Nine just got the bicycle and used the TARDIS to get into her house on Christmas eve and left it there, Rose assuming it was her mum who had gotten it and Jackie forever wondering….

And my science teacher asked me if I’d seen the Silence, so I responded “The What?” and his face went blank, and he replied. “What were you asking me about?” I just about cried laughing so hard.we should have a day where whovians worldwide go out with tally marks on their hands and arms, freak the world out a little bit
